Mission

Our mission is simple, and in accordance with our motto:
We Serve.

We have been active in the community by furnishing the less fortunate with food, clothing, eye examinations and eyeglasses. Our club has also contributed to district projects such as: Beacon Lodge, Eye Research, Leader Dog, Blind Association, Hearing Bank and Research, Care-A-Van, LCIF, Eye Bank of Western PA, Boy Scouts, and Cub Scouts. In order to raise funds for our assistance of fellow man we organize numerous fund raising projects. Such projects include the refreshment stand at the Westmoreland County Agriculture Fair, broom and light bulb sales, white cane days, fruit cake sales, community birthday calendar sales and more.

History

Our Club was organized with 36 members on January 19, 1948 by E. G. Moyer of the Youngwood Lions Club and assisted by Zone Chariman, Sam Steiner, of Youngwood. At the time of founding the Mount Pleasant Township Lions Club was located in Norvelt, PA and the scheduled meeting place was the Windsor Hotel in United (Meetings were Thursdays, 6:30PM).

The following officers were elected January 30, 1948 to fulfill the requirements in applying for a charter from Lions International: President - Harry C. Strandberg, Secretary - Raymond H. Trout, and Treasurer - Alfred J. Stinebiser

The charter was sent to International on February 27, 1948. Charter night was held on March 4, 1948 at the Sleepy Hollow Tavern, Route 30 West, Ligonier, PA. There were approximately 150 people in attendance, including Lions and wives from Mt. Pleasant Township, Youngwood, Latrobe, and Greensburg Clubs.
